Habana, 1964. He graduated in 1988 from the Higher Institute of Art (ISA) of Havana, specializing in painting. He has been a teacher of plastic arts on the faculty of the School of Artistic Education of the Higher Pedagogic Institute “Enrique José Varona” (ISPEJV), at San Alejandro School of Fine Arts, and at the School of Visual Arts of the Higher Institute of Art (ISA). He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Cuba and abroad, in which he has combined his conceptual work with different forms of expression: installations, the body, new media and others. He has earned various residencies and scholarships in Germany, Canada, Cuba, the USA, Japan, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
He has contributed illustrations and design to alternative publications such as Albur, Credo, Memoria de la Postguerra and Enema. He was a member of the group Puré, of the Pilón project, as well as the group Enema. He is the creator of the I-MEIL Gallery (2007), a work that uses email as a means of artistic creation. His works are part of several public and private collections: AGO in Ontario, Canada, CIFO Art Foundation in the USA, Daros-Latinamerica in Switzerland, the Brownstone Foundation in Paris, the Ludwig Foundation in Germany, the Farber Foundation in the USA, the Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal, Canada, the National Museum of Fine Arts of Cuba, the Shelley and Donald Rubin Private Collection in the USA, and others. In recognition of his outstanding educational activity, the Higher Institute of Art granted him the Diploma of Pedagogic Merit in 2000 and the Diploma of Honor in 2007. He won the Maretti prize in 2013. He was awarded the Distinction For National Culture in 1999 and the National Prize in Visual Arts in 2014.
